2023 is coming to a close, and 2024 is upon us, what kinds of things would you like to see from me in the new year?

Rectangles?
Forge finished blades?
Damascus?
Single Bevels?
Western handles?
A sock oriented OnlyFans? Wait...that's been done. Damn it!

Any suggestions are welcome. Just trying to brainstorm a little here

Maybe you’ve already done this approach and I missed it but I really enjoy getting to see the BTS work of knives.

@KasumiJLA comes to mind with hand polishing for example but getting to see the rough drafts of pieces and the stories behind them is fascinating!

I’ve heard nothing but great things about your work, so getting an idea into your process that leads to these successful pieces seems pretty cool

Here is my list that I would like to see from you for 2024. I know that a few things are already on your mind, so I am putting pressure on in a very disguised way.. 🙃

Tamahagane - Man, I know you're itching and I think it could be a wonderful project!

Damascus honyaki - You know what I mean! The famous photo which is impossible to find the blacksmith 😂 For real it's gonna be a wonderful project for both of us 🙂

Kurouchi! - It would be great to see you produce more san mai with kurouchi! Although it would be dangerous for my wallet 🧐

Do what you like - You're really talented Matt and already being able to produce knives full time, hey, that's no small feat. You have what it takes to go far and I'm not going to let you down. I will embark on your projects and try to make your magnificent creations shine. That's it, I'm going to shed a tear and ruin my polish with these little drops filled with sodium

Happy new year buddy and can't wait to see you in person in 2024 🙂

I think seeing some Damascus, some wrought cladding, and some more Apex ultra & magnacut offerings would be neat.

That being said, I don’t think anything needs to change. Keep doing what you’re doing and have fun with it and try whatever you want to try

Over the years we’ve seen your stuff it’s just gotten better and better.

For a challenge, how about a differentially hardened, mono-steel carbon large cleaver? Have Julien polish it up.
Hey @Dan- fun fact : I asked Matt a tall 65mm honyaki nakiri last week! I had a vision about an inverse polish and a gunome pattern for this project..

Ok my "tall" is maybe not your kind of tall 😉

It’s a Gyuto in single bevel style, there’s no benefit but you can show your Baka gaijin friend how authentic it is
Hmmm, it can't be athentic since no such athentic style exists. Gyuto is a Japanese version of a western knife, as far as I've read it never came in single bevel in Japan. There was an Israeli maker making these a few years back. I am sure it has been done by western makers here and there, just can't seem to figure out what would be the benefit of one, maybe someone knows though To me general purpose (chef) knife and single bevel don't go together, but again just curious.

It was a joke, single bevel gyuto appeal to Weatern customers who want get a authentic Japanese single bevel but don’t want to step out their comfort zone

I got you, I was just genuinely curious if there would be any benefit. Looks like a purely marketing grab of not very experienced westerners.

That’s a bit narrow minded, isn’t it?

It’s a fun knife to use. It’s something different from the hoard of gyutos out there.

But what would be a benefit of a single bevel general purpose knife? If you want something different why not get a different style knife instead of potentially ruining a gyuto, unless there is a reason for it of course.

I don’t think you are ruining a gyuto 😉

As I said, it’s a fun knife to use and something different from your ordinary gyuto. I like them 👍

If you find it fun it’s good, Wa gyuto as a whole kind started off as appealing export but they actually works well, and I see some Japanese chefs started to use them too now.
