When you were an absolute noob and thought you knew what you were doing? Might have been a long time ago for some of you.

.. so I came back to the mazaki gyuto I “thinned” at the beginning of the journey. Wasn’t that long ago, and I’m not that much further down the path but I can safely say that it’s easy to find my mistakes. It’s also much easier to tell what I actually did than it was before.

Back to zero bevel (actually this time), ground some convexity back in, and started blending.

Humbling. Again. And I’m only beginning to see the bigger picture. A long way to go 🙂.

Forty-odd years of sharpening and I still don't feel like I know what I'm doing! I spent a couple decades (or more) doing it poorly but I was better than anyone else around me so it seemed like I was doing pretty good. But I knew I wasn't. Then when the internet really exploded I realized just how poorly I was doing.

I'm constantly learning and adapting and growing. I love it! I love reading about and looking at what you guys are up to. So long as these hands can put a knife to a stone, I hope to never stop learning and improving. :)
