Butch Harner posted a note on the Fora earlier about Doug Seward passing away:

While Doug's activity on the kitchen knife forums tailed off quite a bit the last few years, he was very active in the early days. He attended many of the ECGs, and was known for teaming up with Butch to make nitrogen ice cream, and for bringing many slabs of hot/ spicy bacon.

Doug was active in some knife maker communities, and attended hammer-ins, etc. He also was very big on BBQ, and had a very tasty sauce he used for competitions (and he graciously sent a quart for my 6-year-old son a couple months ago, who considers it the best sauce n the whole world).

Doug was very kind and very helpful, and he will be missed a lot by my family and many others.

Even though I barely knew Doug, only having met him a few times, he left an impression on me as being one the nicest and genuine of men I've ever come across. RIP

Terrible, surprising news. Makes me enormously sad. Saw him last about 3 weeks ago. Such a warm, generous, personable individual. Will really miss him.

Damn this such bad news. His BBQ party was a bucket list item. Such a super nice guy.
Any info on where to send condolences?

    Larry, thanks for the link.

Bill, x2 on the BBQ party. They never fell on dates when I could get up there, but I always figured I would make it the next year. Same with the annual forging get-together.

I just came across this thread. Very saddened by this news. Already having as hard time sleeping tonight.
I will miss his humor at ecg, but I'll miss his bacon even more. That stuff was like crunchy crack to me. Wish I had the recipe to carry on the tradition.

If nothing else, I do have his recipe for his pork rub and for his BBQ sauce.
