Shooting for something like Tojiro DP or the like, maybe a MAC pro in used condition.

He doesn't care about appearances, just looking for a knife with good bones and lots of life left.

Don't have anything to offer but the Tojiro DP you mentioned can be bought new for ~$100. Pretty good value IMO.
