Got an email about Epic Edge sales. Looks like if you sign up for their email list you can take 10% at certain set intervals such as $200, $500, $1000, etc. That ends Sat the 27th.

Then the emails reads:

*****
Cyber Monday is our biggest sale of the year! Up to 50% off retail!!!
For 28 hours, starting at 8pm (PST) on Sunday, November 28th and going through Midnight on Monday, November 29th, we'll post a set of featured items -- each with an incredibly discounted price (up to 50% off retail!!). The items will change every two hours, so be sure to keep checking back frequently.

Due to the level of the price cuts, we cannot reveal which items will be included in the sale until they are listed on the website.
*****

Looks like it is a mix of kitchen, EDC, and shaving offerings. I've never participated so not entirely sure exactly how it goes but I'd say it's worth signing up for the email letter and seeing what's offered.

This sale event was one that many looked forward to every year. I think they dropped it the last two because of Covid but good to see it back.

See if they have something you like/want/NEED and then check in frequently. It's a hoot.

a tip for those who want a low-effort solution for recording what's been on sale without staying up all night..

Bash:
export TZ=":US/Pacific"

cat << EOF > dl_cmd.sh
#!/usr/bin/env bash
wget -E -H -p --tries=3 'https://www.epicedge.com/shopdisplayproducts.asp?id=1321' -O "epicedge_cm_$(date +'%F-%H-%M').html"
EOF

chmod +x dl_cmd.sh

watch -n 7200 ./dl_cmd.sh

you can do something like that to save the black friday page every two hours.

edit: typo. should be 7200s for 2h, not 3600s
edit2: oops, the date command wasn't being re-evaluated, so wget was overwriting the old files.

already ordered a Yoshikane 150mm petty that was around 40% off!

Bash:
export TZ=":US/Pacific"
watch -n 3600 wget -E -H -p --tries=5 'https://www.epicedge.com/shopdisplayproducts.asp?id=1321' -O "epicedge_cm_$(date +'%F-%H-%M').html"

This is what i'm looking to do, but have no idea what to do with your code. I'd like to know if the Yoshikane hammered 210 kritsuke gyuto goes on sale overnight.

you'd have to run it in a terminal. in a unix-like environment with watch and wget installed.

or i can just share the results later if you want.

That would be great if you can. Coding is Greek to me.

is it me or is their site for the sale not working?

yeah for whatever reason there has been no sale for a while. guess they aren't rewarding those who stay up late.

i only saw 2 updates of deals then into "no products match your search"
yea same, i saw the 8pm-10pm PST deals, then the 10pm-12am PST deals, then its been down since then. did their guy who was in charge of updated the page fall asleep? lol

The cyber Monday link doesn’t seem to show anything, but looks like sales are still live if you scroll the individual products. I just grabbed this yoshikane santoku for half off.

bummer, i really liked being able to just easily see what was being discounted. not really used to this site and navigation is clunky. a couple decent deals so far.

tempting to snag that yoshi santoku. i have a 240mm gyuto in skd i love.

ok yeah... couldnt help myself and bought one. after giving it some thought, i might as well give santoku's a try. for this price on a yoshikane its hard to argue.

Thanks for sharing! I followed your link and the deal is still available and in stock; I grabbed one for $153 w/free shipping for my daughter for Christmas. Crazy cheap for a Yoshi and I love that Yoshi’s “santoku” is more like one of their downsized gyutos than an actual santoku.

I don't know anything about the maker and I don't need one but $90USD for Blue 1 seems like an awesome way to dive into the bunka pool!

i love my cheap Kato bunka! (Kintaro White #2 Kurouchi Bunka 170mm (6.7")) Got this for $98 a year ago. Its great for smashing and mincing garlic, peppers, mushrooms, quick and small things like that. The tip is good for slight curves of the pepper and some fruits too.

Also... I see EE is now just rotating the same deals... haven't seen anything new since last night.

Hey guys, do you know more or less how much time does the 'free standard shipping' takes to deliver?
when i called EE yesterday about something else. they said anyone (who i'd assume 99% of us are) who chooses the free shipping would get last priority, literally, over anyone who paid for any paid shipping option. they ship via the slowest/cheapest method out of seattle.

I've ordered from them previously. Their free shipping option was no slower than any other standard shipping I've seen. Not like amazon, where if you choose free ship, they hold onto it for a week before sending it out.
