ever disassemble a pepper mill and put it back together successfully?

mine is an old Williams Bound mill. I love the dumb thing. but to say it is getting crusty is an understatement. it has lived next to my stove for 2 decades.

I wipe it down, but life has been hard for it. it goes car-camping with me.

I just scrubbed it down with soap and water because it felt tacky. I hope I didn't blow it. I will spray compressed air down it. but it looks kinda easy to take apart. three screws. anyone do this?

I have taken apart many manual pepper mills in my day. While some can require a little patience to reassemble, none have been complicated. I say go for it.

They can get pretty dirty and should be cleaned periodically.

I've taken apart my old pepper (and salt) mills. There's usually 2 or 3 screws on the bottom that hold the parts in place. Take them out and clean the parts and then reassemble. The steel quality of the grinding parts is what makes a better mill.
