First of a few catch and releases I have going here.

Sold to me as “aoto” which i believe it is, just a flavor a little different than the tanba stones we usually see. Harder, but still self slurries. Finishes more in the 3-4k range with some burnishing tendencies. Edges feel that range as well. Not going through the trouble of a super thorough polish on this one, but good contrast and even brings some detail to the party. Grit consistent. Wouldn’t expect this to be a finished in most instances but a great place to start I think.

If I didn’t have a 3-4k tanba I’d be all over this.

Guys don’t underestimate the sheer toothiness that is aoto.

Glws!!

Speaking of aoto, I finally got a keeper for myself that is a touch finer than the one I sold you. It has some inclusions but it's really nice with consistent grit and shallow iron scratches.

Which is to say, an aoto that self slurries but burnishes slightly and doesn't just ooze is an excellent aoto and harder to find, and it's what my preference is. Well, if it oozes mud, it will be beastly fast so that's that tradeoff
