It looks like a 75 mm x 230 mm Santoku. I have to say, I am curious...

It might be retail therapy one day.

As best I can tell, this is somewhere between a thin cleaver and a Santoku. While my curiosity is peaked every time I see it, I have a kick but custom reground thin cleaver. I don’t see anything replacing that cleaver.
 
This is an interesting style of knife. I don't believe the Komagiri type is particular to a single brand,but is there more history or background on what these knives are all about?

I just got a Masahiro komagiri. I thought it was going to be quite a bit thinner, more like a Takeda or a thin Chinese cleaver, but it is a fatty! Not good for slicing but very good for chopping or mincing, though I might thin it.

The Tadafune looks to be a lot thinner near the edge than the Masahiro though. The weights on these look to be from 300 to 500g at 240mm, a big variance.

While reading about the komagiri I found a reference to the word meaning “mincing knife” and a comment that the style was popular 20-30 years ago;c can’t seem to find the sources again right now.
 
These look awesome! Like a chinese vege cleaver with a tip! Must have a look at Tosho when I next visit the region!~
