As best I can tell, this is somewhere between a thin cleaver and a Santoku. While my curiosity is peaked every time I see it, I have a kick but custom reground thin cleaver. I don’t see anything replacing that cleaver.

I think you are correct.This is an interesting style of knife. I don't believe the Komagiri type is particular to a single brand,but is there more history or background on what these knives are all about?
