I assume you are talking about the AS Hayabusa line (sometimes marketed as AS Migaki for that particular steel)? Hatsukokoro has a ton of steels in the Hayabusa line and the majority of them are thin blades (spine thickness average around the ~2mm mark) at a good value. To my knowledge, most of them start off as laser cut knife blanks that are further worked by hand. That line has been out for a few years and they have added new steels and handles over time so I can't say every single one is made that way, just that most were in the past.

They aren't crazy on fit and finish, and the immediate OOTB edge may not be perfect (heel complaints are the #1 issue I hear about), but I find them to be a respectable starting point for a lot of people. You can often get a full 240mm gyuto for $150ish or less? That's a pretty good deal if your expectations are reasonable imo.
 
I see that I misspelled AG instead of AS in the titel.

This is the knives I'm talking about. I ordered the bunka and fit and finish seems good, not very good. It's very heavy for a knife that size, it's heavier than some of my 240 gyutos. For some reason the tip seem a bit thick and after a very short session with thinning the tip it works much better. The sharpness out of the box was ok but not more. A quick session on shapton glass 3k and it's really good. Very good value for the money though if you know how to "finish" the last percent of the knife yourself.

Yep those are the knives I was referring to. They can be a great value or starting point for a lot of buyers.
 
I got two 240 gyutos in the same serien, one for me and one for a friend and I have to say, the edge was VERY bad imho. It was okey if you don't know anything about sharp knives, it took A LOT of sharpening to get it to where I wanted it, aka apexed and then polished and stropped. On the other hand, it seems there is a reason they are more inexpensive, you have to do the final work yourself. Other than that, solid knives which seem to work just fine.

The handles are quite big though.

They are not even close to fit and finish compared to my Shiro Kamos which I love.
