Hatsukokoro Komorebi 246x54mm Gyuto
Blue #1 with Damascus Cladding
Ebony and Horn Octo Handle

Used only a few times in home environment, sharpened once out of the box for the initial edge. Plenty of heel height and a Sanjo-style taper with a respectable 4.2mm thickness out of the handle, down to a very fine tip. Laser like grind behind the edge, similar to like a Shibata. You can see from how much core steel is exposed. Slight right-hand bias, with a high convex on the right side, little flatter on the left. Profile is comfortable with no dead flat spots. The knife is not overly reactive but has taken a beautiful patina.

Fit and finish on this example is excellent. Spine and choil are nicely polished up. Handle install is clean. I don't know who the maker is, but the dammy cladding pattern has some randomness to it that I find appealing.

$455 shipped & fully insured within US (international PM for details)

Do you have any idea how the B1 damascus compares performance-wise with the B2 kasumi?

The patina developing on this one is looking stunning!

Yea I had both. The fit and finish is much higher on this one, and the grind is also different. This one being high convex grind both sides, compared to my b2 kasumi one that was more flat grind and flat profile like a Yoshikanes. The thickness behind the edge is also thinner on this one. I'd say the choil shot shown is representative of the grind along the blade.

Based on my single sharpening session, the steel feels like it's treated to high hardness. Retention is similar to other blue steels I've used (I honestly can't tell the difference between b1 and b2). Hope that helps.
