Hi all, I have this beautiful piece and need a piece of galvanic rust removed.
Anyone have any recommendations around London? Also where would I turn to get it evaluated? Thanks

Ahh, that type of galvanic activity. I think you can just use a toothbrush with some bicarb and water? That's where I'd start before trying to send it out.
Yes a knife smith told me this however I’m not skilled in this and don’t want to damage the Damascus, I would rather have some one experienced in this as the knife has hardly left the box. He also mentioned storing it in a humidity controlled box and some sort of oiling

I want to keep it original and pristine, for the best return possible. I rang some places in London and no one buys, can anyone point me in the right direction?
Being in the UK there are laws controlling this, sadly the time has come where I need the sale.

How did it happen? Cowry X is very resilient, semi-stainless, etc.

Cowry X would only be on the core anyways, but the cladding should be full stainless. It’s the welded bolster that’s causing issues. Wish more J makers would do integrals :(

I never used his services before so I can't personally vouch for him, but perhaps have a look at Rock Chop Knife Company if you really don't want to try it yourself. JPAU was singing his praises for the strops he's making and his work on IG looks solid. I reckon he could probably get it looking better than new, but again, I haven't seen his work in person.

He's based in Sussex I think.

You can try kitchenprovisions.co.uk probably for the touch up. Might as well get them to evaluate it there if you need. I don't know if there are any knives shops trying to purchase but the 210 are going for about 3K USD and 240 are about 5K USD. You would probably get a better return selling on this forum. It seems like an easy fix at home if you want to just try rubbing with a towel and some light abrasive. Remember to rub it down with camellia oil next time to avoid rusting.

In relation the blade is just over 14cm and while knife just over 24 cm?

So it’s a petty knife which is going around for 1.5K USD.
Yeah length is 15 and 3 cm at widest part of blade, I’ve established it’s a Hattori cowry x, the writing is all in Japanese. The imperfections can be restored, I am keen to sell it.
