Looking to sell a brand new, never used Hattori Cowry X San Mai Limited Edition 135 Petty.
Limited edition of 12 knives, produced to commemorate Hattori's 80th birthday
This knife is marked "9 of 12" on the blade.
Blade is Cowry X core with stainless VG-2 cladding.
Handle is hand made from linen micarta with a slim "coke bottle" profile.
Includes:
  1. Hattori Cowry X San Mai 135mm petty
  2. Nylon belt sheath
  3. Box with 80th anniversary label
  4. Does NOT include a saya
I purchased this as a gift, but it arrived too late for the occasion.
If it doesn't sell this weekend, I'll probably return it.

This would be a great score for any Hattori fan or someone interested to try Cowry X steel at a reasonable price.

Asking $200 shipped CONUS.

Description:
This year, Master Hattori became 80 years old. In Japan, a person’s 80th birthday is commemorated with a special celebration called 傘寿 / Sanjyu. To celebrate his special anniversary year, and also his proud achievements as a Master craftsman, Hattori has decided to produce a Special Limited Edition Collection of knives called the 傘 San Series. Each item in this special limited edition collection will be marked with a Serial Number.

The Hattori 傘 San Series knife collection will feature special, very limited production models, which Master Hattori can no longer produce in large quantities due to the rarity or limited availability of handle materials or blade materials.

Today, we present the Hattori 傘 San Series Cowry X Petty 135mm with handmade Linen Micarta Handle.

As you likely know, Hattori knives – such as the Hattori KD Series Cowry X Damascus Knives and the Hattori Forums FH Series – are recognized as true masterpieces and are praised for being very practical they are the fruits of Hattori's long years of experience and hard work.

Unfortunately, Hattori’s KD Cowry X Damascus knives have been in very limited supply for a long time, so many people missed the chance to own and use these legendary Cowry X knives.

Fortunately, Master Hattori has just finished a limited quantity of Cowry X San-Mai Petty Knives. The San-Mai (Three-piece laminated) blade is made with a Premium Cowry X Powdered High Speed Tool Steel, sandwiched between two layers of VG-2 steel. This laminated blade construction provides extra strength and durability for the blade and the high carbon VG-2 steel should be more scratch-resistant than the low and medium carbon stainless steels that are commonly used for cladding.

Master Hattori originally selected Cowry X steel from Daido Steel Company because it provides an exceptional combination of extra high hardness, cutting performance and edge retention.

Through many years of trial and error, Master Hattori has perfected every aspect of Cowry X knife production – From the heat treatment, to the blade grinding and final sharpening.

The design concept for these Hattori Cowry X Petty knives was simplicity and practicality. The handmade, hand contoured, Custom Linen Micarta handle provides a fine grip and great balance. Each knife comes with a Black Nylon Belt Pouch, which is perfect for outdoor activities such as camping, fishing etc.

Hattori has only made a total of 12 (Pcs.) 傘 SAN Limited Edition Cowry X Petty knives. Each knife has an individual, unique Serial Number and you can select your favorite Serial Number too.

We believe this is a great opportunity to experience Master Hattori’s famous Cowry X steel knives, they will certainly be a fine addition to your knife collection!

A mainstay of professional Western kitchens, the Petty knife is a small general-purpose knife used for peeling, shaping, and slicing fruits and vegetables, chopping herbs, and making garnishes. The compact size and relatively narrow blade of the Petty knife mean that it is very nimble and controllable, thus it is ideal for making precise cuts.

Damn. Offered at a time (yo, THANKSGIVING DAY?!) that any USA kitchen denizen is probably running balls to the wall with little chance to look at the internets.

OTOH, I didn't burn the turkey while lusting after rare J knives and dinner turned out rather better than OK. But still...
