Welcome to the show. Can you explain to me why pocket (and sheath) knives sell for so much? I see them all the time on my ebay searches and they often go for crazy (to me) money.

I think its like jewelry for dudes. We can all get something basic for cheap but we all see that one thing to drool over and the price goes up. Would assume the same thing is true for kitchen knives?

True. What was bought in the nineties for a few dollars on a French flee market now goes for $200, sold by some smart Californian guy. In the best case a project knife, requiring a lot of work before even becoming usable. But collectors don't use.
 
If you really want to have an idea about how kitchen knives have developed, better have a look at NOS — new old stock.

So like wristwatches as well. Makes sense. If I had the $ I'd drop four figures on a quality watch. Is a watch actually worth 1k+ just to tell the time? Not IMO but if I could afford it I'd do it.
