Hi, I’m Steve and have been a long time (10+ years) JKnife user, straight razor user, especially Japanese, Spanish, French, and Swedish ones. I’m also a long-term (10+ years) JNat collector.

My kitchen knives include Takeda, Mizuno Tanrenjo, Shigefusa, Shibata, Kobayeshi, and many of the mainstream users. I have both traditional Japanese knives and Western Japanese knives.

I see many friends here, and I type on an iPad so I’m bad about typos!

Steve

Welcome to the forums, Steve.

Which Mizuno do you have? I love my wide bevel Akitada Hontanren. Great all rounder.

I hope your wallet has survived your Jnat collection 😉😁.

Being a razor guy, do you also use coticules and Belgian Blues? One of my favourite edges is that put on a good blue paper steel by a Belgian Blue.

Thanks everyone!

Same but not the shinogi model, 270mm blue steel. This is a substantial knife, 3.3mm over the heel. Clad in watetsu I think.

The wallet’s taken a hit on JNats over 10+ years, but it is a long-time hobby, so it is what it is, ha ha. I enjoy them a lot.

Yes, but I’m just getting started with coticules and Belgian Blues. My main razor and knife finishers are JNats, but I have a couple of really, really, good cotis though they’re small. I use coticules on knives but really need some bigger ones for knives. And large, good quality knife cotis aren’t exactly cheap either.

Welcome. Which Spanish, French, and Swedish knives do you currently use?
Steel from these countries are razors not knives, Most of my knives are Japanese. A vintage French chef’s knife is in my ‘to do’ list, but finding one that isn’t badly worn is just not easy. I do have some vintage American steel that belonged to my parents (I’m over 65 BTW) including a Utica Super Cut cleaver that I use to condition Arks, hard JNats, cotis, synths, and cut pizzas. You could probably shave with it. But in razors

Spanish, Filarmonicas of several types and a couple of generations
French - various makes, but Le Grelot, Le Jaguar, Thiers Isaard modern and vintage, Touron Paris (7-day set) and Touron-Parisot, and many more small makers.
Swedish - C.V. Heljestrand of course, E.A. Berg, J. Engstrom are the usual suspects.

Thanks for the welcome gentlemen!

Thanks Oli,

I’ve been on the dark side for 15 years, I just haven’t posted!

Old joke: A couple had a child who never said anything, never talked. They couldn’t get him to speak and they finally assumed that he was mute.

When he was 6 years old, they gave him lunch and he said ‘the soup is cold’.

They were astounded, amazed, and asked him, ‘Why haven’t you said anything before now?’ He replied, ‘Everything has been OK so far.’
