I'm a casual home cook, but also obsessive tinkerer (bikes, tools, knifes, whatever).
Sharpened my Ikea knives with a $10 water stone a few years ago, and since then accumulated a small collection of modest knives and stones. I've also sharpened all my friends offensively dull knives until I ran out of knives to sharpen. I can't say my food tastes any better for my troubles, but prepping vegetables is now my favorite part of cooking.
Have been getting deeper into the weeds of knife styles, geometry and steels (I've read way too much from knifesteelnerds) and find it all unexpectedly interesting. I've often found myself on these forums from google, so I figured I've sign up and support the forum.
