Hi everyone,
Been a long time lurker but finally decided to join in the fun! I am based in Adelaide where I moved to from Melbourne as the COVID lockdowns started.
While I've had a multitude of other hobbies and an avid cook myself, the world of high-quality knives is still relatively new.
For years, I was armed with a set of cheap but trusty 'kiwi' brand knives, which I used and abused. Hailing from Indonesia, these were common, and we would use them and sharpen them until they go pretty much out of shape. A late friend bought my wife and I a set of Global knives (yes, I know they're fairly divisive, and being on the other side now - I wouldn't recommend them) as a wedding present. These ended up being well-used in our kitchen for quite some time, and is still the set that both my wife and other visitors (e.g,, mother in law) use. To be fair, having them professionally sharpened has actually rejuvenated them.
A Japan trip in 2019 took me to Osaka where I purchased my very first 'proper' knife, if I can call it that - and I've slowly built up a little collection that I mainly use.
Like with any of my other hobbies (guitars, watches, cameras) - I've always found participating in forums really useful and can lead me to some deep, dark, but fairly rewarding obsession. Here to learn more from others, and hopefully contribute some thoughts too!
And oh, I have my eyes set on my next knife, a Yu Kurosaki Bunka to my collection!
Cheers
