Welcome. What kinds of knives did you make?

Hi Cuna,

My destination to buy knives during a trip would be...Sweden. There are quite a few very good blacksmiths that have nothing to envy for craftsmanship to Japanese blacksmiths, but to each his own.
Please share some pictures.

Welcome to the forum.

well hi there.
Just made the simple kind of knife.
what do they call it, like an all-around knife.
ill try to get a pic of it.

Heres one.
is there a way to reapply the black?
we used some yellow paste, no idea what it is.
then in to the furnace.

is this carbo steel?
if so melt a cup full of instant coffee in approx 1L of COLD WATER ( this is very important because hot water ruin the acid in the coffee), then clean the blade with Windex a couple of times, make sure not to touch the blade at all, then soak it in the instant coffee liquid for a good 24hr, this should do the trick.

If it's stainless steel it might also work but not as good you can try silver Blackner but it's much more aggressive. anyhow a chemical-free safe process to darken your blade

Lets us know how it went

by the way the black stuff you have on your knife now is the oxidization created in the heat treat , there is no getting back without ruining the blade so don't reheat it you will end up with a piece of soft metal

Japanese katakana on a Swedish-made knife? Futhark that.

yes its carbon steel and yea thats what i was afraid of.
here at 9:10 is exactly what we did to the knife to make it black.

im saying that if you already put it in the forge and heated it up there is not hardened steel left in it

the only time it was heated is when we made it in japan few years ago and blackened it using the same method in the video above at 9:10

can it be blackened with the jax blackener or can it not? confusing
