+1 for kitayama 8k.
It has some gritty-ish in it, to imitate a natural stone.

Although I can't compare much, only a superstone 5k and a bbw (which is coarser than a kitayama), the kitayama definately leaves bite on the edge.

I've played with a few high grit stones for razors and the naniwa 8k snow white is the most "stony" I've found so far. Harder, a little grittier and a little toothier than most. Really nice stone.

The Fuji 8k feels plastic, but polishes extremely well. Shapton glass 10k is similar. Ohishi 10k is also on the "creamy" side, being more of a polisher.

The JKI 6k feels on the glassier side of things to me.

No experience with the high grit shapton pros.

I have a slice of that stone. It's got that feel, I agree, but not as much as the Sigma Power Ceramic 8k in my opinion.

@Seemore Has the Hibiki arrived? How is it?

if its our blue speckeled 6k, it feels much better when permenantly soaked (also custs faster and polishes better)

Yes, it arrived. So far I’ve only removed the factory surface (I think) and beveled the corners. I ran a knife across it a few passes, after a 1K, just to get a sense. It’s hard and a little grindy, as expected.
More later when there’s some quiet time for deliberate assessment.
