I don't think I am a very good cook (not horrible, just not above average or even that), and normally cooking for one it is hard to gain that much experience, but I love prep work...hence having nice, and very sharp, knives makes it a joy. I doubt if I was still using dull beaters I would give another thought to prep work. I will, unnecessarily, use 2-3 knives when one will do, just because they are better suited to a particular item.
The knives I have given or suggested buying, and ongoing sharpening of those gifts, has brought a bit of that joy to others, even if they don't go down the rabbit hole. They appreciate it, but don't want to learn to sharpen or have 20-40 knives....go figure.
