If you want to check out good knives on TV, watch NHK World. Like Trails to Tsukiji that picks a different food item each show.

Since we are complaining cutting boards, the opposite happened to me two weeks ago. I was staying at my aunt so I checked out the kitchen. Brought my stones as I usually do just in case. Nice large end grain board. I think 'off to good start'. Large block of western knives. So I pull one out: Rosenbaums. These things are 2mm thick at the edge at least. Probably the worst knives in history of mankind, typically sold quite expensive too. Look further: nothing but a cheese knife and a small peeler. My aunt is a great cook, they're pretty well off too. Didn't even bother to break out my stones. Would have just ruined them without achieving anything. I couldn't help myself but send them a half decent knife over the mail couple weeks later (thinned, reprofiled and rebalanced IKEA slitbar veg knife). Just couldn't bear the thought.

They probably locked up their BoardSmith boards so the renters wouldn't screw them up
