Does this vary by brand or is it true that deba knife doesn't actually have a matchi by design/tradition?

A knife that has a machi (neck), like the yanabiba on the top, is measured from the trip to the machi. A Deba knife, at the bottom, has no machi, so it is measured from the tip to the chin(heel).

Usually if there is a machi, the T part of the tang, it’s measured from there to the tip. If no machi from heel to tip.

99% of debas do not have a machi. So measure from heel to tip.
