I originally asked James Oatley on Instagram if he remembers what steel he used for this one and he replied, "$2000" and then "scanvic 12 c27"
Denka 210 aogami super asking/trade value $550:
edge length: 214mm
heel height: 54mm
thickness over heel: 2.64mm
thickness in the middle: 2.2mm
thickness near tip where kurouchi ends: 2.4mm (yes, this denka tapers in the middle and then gets thicker again before thinning at the very tip. I don't recall the denka I'm keeping being quite as bad, but I do recall the tip being thicker than the average knife and therefore required quite a bit of thinning).
patina on the core and a few rust spots on the spine from the previous owner.
