Let's say I have X dollars ,what to buy; for the same price Japanese or American and most important why?
By the way I live in Europe so I have to pay taxes
anyway.Let us say guyoto 24 cm.

As you live in Europe, why not buying there?

There is not so much choise than in america or japan.Europe ; very thick knives and softer than the rest.

Ah.
What is your source of knowledge?

This and other forums + 8 japanese knives 4 spanisch and 2 frech knives

No offense intended, but some european makers gained some very positive reputation in the last years.
Some names that come to my mind in no special order:
Catcheside, Dahlmann, Raquin, Antzenberger, Xerxes, Tilman, and many others.

Also there are some oz makers that are worth having a look at.

Good luck with your search.

Looking forward to seeing how my TF Denka stacks up against a Xerxes Primus II

I have a knife from Dan I am EXTREMELY happy with.

I also just bought a petty from Lew Griffin who's pretty much unheard of on here as far as I can tell. Monosteel 1095. It's excellent and I will be trying to get his name out on here as I think he's a maker more people should be looking at. He's over in Ireland.
