looking for western handle japanese parer in carbon with good fit, any exist?
I had a dragon 210, handle was too thin. is that the case for parer as well? I got chonky fingers yo. I really liked the fit of mac pro parer but I detest stainless lol
+2 the one I have in the drawer. I'm KEVIN under the reviews with a photo.I would buy this…
Misono No.134
this might be the oneUnfortunately I recall the misono parer as having a fairly slim handle (I let it go because I was getting annoying spot oxidation from the humid/salt air near the coast), slimmer than the mac pro. If you're looking for a chonkier handle, you might wanna go with the z-Kramer euro 52100?
e.g. https://cutleryandmore.com/products/kramer-carbon-steel-paring-knife-39751
edit: maybe i need one of those myself lol. that cut away at the heel looks like a great feature so you don't get bit, and the handle has a nice swell to it for sure. Made in Seki so they are Japanese!
I have 3 of these. Love it.I would buy this…

I don't know about the Misono parer, but for sure mentioned the problem of too small a handle with Japanese parers and pettys. A reason to prefer a Misono 440 series 180mm 'slicer' with its larger handle. As for shorter knives, I prefer a Nogent Sab, blocky but strangely comfortable. Or this Robert Herder, 130mm. https://amzn.eu/d/dC4F3PRI can't recall if it was a Misono parer or petty that @Benuser recommends because it has a bigger handle.
There's always reaching out to Harner - I've heard his are very good.
Sold! I just bought one.I would buy this…

I have a 95mm ajikiri with a full size deba handle and it's really funny to look at haha. Comfortable to use though, just looks kind of goofyA 'paring knife with a proper large handle for manly hands' is honestly just a giant opportunity in the market. Virtually every producer, whether eastern or western, scales down the handle to be proportional to the blade. As if my hands somehow shrink down when I'm holding a smaller knife...
You did remember my remark about handles, that it was me, and that it lead me to a Misono. Not bad at all.Well, I guess I can't trust my memory....
