To who ever brought the standard kato. It was signed by kato himself

What makes you say that? The calligraphy on the Kiri box? The chisel marks on the blade look the same as most other Kato's from what I can tell. Only variations I've seen are when the last character was replaced with 'kao'.

The Kao is exclusive to one store in the world. The knife is the same as any other standard kato.
They have stock 99% of the time.
Not cheap but still cheaper than what it goes for on BST

Ah OK. That makes sense now. Some would consider the chiseled kanji a signature, but the brush work on the Kiri box is a nice personal touch. Sorta like the beautiful calligraphy that Jiro includes with his blades.

I'd love to get my hands on one of those Kiri boxes, signed or not!

I asked the person who commissioned them. He had measured the knife and the kiri box was commissioned at a famous kiri box maker (no idea who) according to the specs of that very knife. He then had it delivered to kato who signed it and had it sent back to him.

I’m not sure if these will fit other knives unless the specs are similar

Mine seem to be pretty "standard" for Standards, 230mm x 50mm.
I've bought two Katos but they both came in very generic boxes. It would be cool to have Kiri boxes with his Kanji on them to make them more personal. Even a nice cardboard knife box would have been nice.

The problem is that kato sends them out to stores wrapped in basic wrapping paper (not even VCI paper) with a rubber band around it.

It’s up to the store, etc to provide the box so many skip the effort and just give you whatever that have lying around

That is not true, they’re maybe limited but that is not the only store that sold Katos with the kao kanji, perhaps that is the only store that still receive knives them with kao from Kato but there is nothing exclusive about it, Morihei has a long relationship with Kato and his father but they are not only one carrying his knives.
When japan-tool still has katos they had the kao kanji too.

As for the box , if you can place the order for the knife than you can place the order for a box.
And that signature will come with it, otherwise it is just a wooden box and you can definitely get that in japan from other stores.

Same for Shigefusa knives btw you. You Can order it with a signed kiri box

Cool knives! Good deal on that KU congrats to both seller and buyer.
Do you know what that Kao simbol means? It kind of looks like a flower. There must be some meaning behind it.
