Hey Guys I'm new to this site and I have already searched a bit.
I'm in a situation, where I was offered a knife that I'm searching. The seller contacted me om my WTB post.
.
Now I'm a bit nervous because he and I are new on this forum, he is from yesterday, no history and wants to deal via PayPal as "for Friends and Family". Is this normal or should I buy the tax for "Good and service".
.
What do U guys doo, when buying knifes here

It’s ultimately your decision but if I were in your shoes, I would decline F&F and go with G&S

Crazier things have happened

You are correct to be skeptical. If they're willing to take G&S if you cover the extra fees, that'd be a good sign, but if they won't accept that I'd just let this "opportunity" pass. Best practice to only do F&F with people who have established reputation and you've done business with before. And even then, I take no offense when someone prefers G&S when dealing with me, it's a prudent practice I'd never judge anyone for.

Yeah there are shady people that pop up on forums to scam people sometimes so I wouldn't take the chance. I had it one time a few years back on a razor forum where a guy replied to my wtb thread and sent me a pic of the stone I was looking for. I recognized it though and sent a message to the owner of that stone and asked if they had sold it. They had not. It was a scam and a red flag was how cheap it was too.

Thanks guys,
I really appreciate your inputs. $750 for a Konosuke Fujiyama frm 2018 is a bit if lost ;)
I will make him the G&S offer if he returns my "call"
.
I also asked if he had a picture of himself and the knife, just to get that part away.

I'd also strongly recommend paying with G&S for a transaction involving a seller who's a new member with no history.

However, just to play devil's advocate, a seller could be hesitant to sell with G&S to a buyer who's a new member with no history. It's not unheard of for buyers on KKF to leverage G&S to take advantage of sellers – especially where higher value knives are involved.

If you did proceed with the purchase whether with G&S or F&F, I'd insist on a thorough video (not photo) of the knife with username and date stamp (or maybe even include your message thread on a screen in the video). Ask them to show the knife in good lighting and at different angles. Based on prior threads, it's not hard to fake time stamps and disguise the condition of the blade in photos.

I wil do that, but As time goes i'm not sure if I should prceed, a gut feeling 😉

This can happen, but his mail change to something totaly different than his f/f.

Aaah, but thanks, U guys are the best 😉

Please send Daveb the username of the contact. If this is a scam, which sounds credible, they will try the same move with another member who is possibly more trusting.

I have sent it all, but I’m confused, he said yes to to G&S no further payment and this picture. This sounds legit….aaah my brain is burning hahaha

Sorry for putting him/you out there if he is legit….

Ask for a video as mentioned by others. A single photo is not going to convince me.

That knife has been refinished (at least by the look of the picture). The hazy finish should be the entire way up the blade. (check the link here for the stock look: Konosuke Fujiyama Blue #1 Gyuto 240mm Ebony Handle (Thick)). That handle is not stock as well.

If that blade is being referred to as new, run now.

Yeah no matter what I would want a pic with his user name and date in the photo to at the minimum prove he even has the knife.

New pic? Those paper authentication tricks are easy to fake. Ask for a video. Takes 1 minute and another to upload

I'm probably outing myself as a paranoid d!ck, but I'm very reluctant to deal with people with very little history, although I am usually selling, not buying, where G&S favors the buyer from what I've heard. I've been lucky so far. Trust your gut.

Yea because I could lie about the knife’s quality and make a claim….
Again some os need to honest in this world, the community is not thaaaaat big 🥰

F… Me,
I just realised that he have only writen me directly and not answered my buying thread….how dum of me to se that now!!!
.
I did wonder how he could answer my post, when he is not at member.

That settle it, it is not serious 🙈
If it’s too good to be true it probably is. Anyone can create a new account, browse the /wtb threads and claim to have what you’re looking for. If they’ve stopped replying to you after you made this post that should tell you everything you need to know.
