Ahh right I forgot they were pretty much the same.Kagekiyo has one that’s quite similar, with Miura you can get 10% discount, they also have a K tip version.

Was looking at both knives and the height of the Izo is a compelling reason to take a second look. But I agree, the price for a ginsan is crazy up there. By the way, may be a dumb question to ask here but, who is Izo? Is it Myojin?Kagekiyo has one that’s quite similar, with Miura you can get 10% discount, they also have a K tip version.

Yes. I have both knives, the Kikuchiyo Izo feels much thinner, a bit stickier and more fragile to the Kagekiyo. It may need a microbevel. I quite like the Kagekiyo, however, I do not like the handle and will swap it out if I decide to keep it.Was looking at both knives and the height of the Izo is a compelling reason to take a second look. Right? That's insane, I guess I give up on my dream of a Kamon, lolJesus, does mammoth ivory cost that much?
I sent a similar request a couple of months ago via his website and never got a response.Probably easiest to just message him on Instagram and ask, honestly.
They can be had much cheaper. That's just a rare bird... or eliphantidae or somethingRight? That's insane, I guess I give up on my dream of a Kamon, lol
I was really hoping it was the around the same price as the one that dropped on eating tools the other day. They can be had much cheaper. That's just a rare bird... or eliphantidae or something
I missed the Jiro that just dropped on carbon too, sucks to be meAnd….gone
I want to polish it, but not bad enough to buy it oolA pretty cool knife just popped up on RSK: A tamahagane forged by Yasha Yakuwa, then ground and sharpened by Shibata. 210 gyuto:

Yep, definitely just a vertical belt finish. Someone is looking at a long process to get that polished up to an aesthetic that is sympathetic to the priceI was a bit surprised by the polish for the price. Doesn’t really look much different to a normal Shibata. Although hard to tell with the pics
But did you finish sharpening it with different grits on each side?Damn I sold my santoku for 700 bucks. That price is definitely something...
Damn so that's where the price difference comes fromBut did you finish sharpening it with different grits on each side?
The price is the two grits added upDamn so that's where the price difference comes from
Thanks. Izo might be Miyojin. Maybe that is why the bump in price, what with Naohito’s popularity right now. I can buy a Kagekiyo B1 with that moolah. Hard pass.Yes. Edit just to say, iI don’t know if that has been confirmed that it is Myojin, but it is believed to be.
Really is a shame. Just have to wonder if there is any tamahagane swirls under that belt finish.Yep, definitely just a vertical belt finish. Someone is looking at a long process to get that polished up to an aesthetic that is sympathetic to the price

i was interested in this as my first ginsan but the new price is kinda crazy.
No one knows but judging from the grind of the Hitohira Ginsan comparing to the Kagekiyo Ginsan they look very similar so as the finish. Was looking at both knives and the height of the Izo is a compelling reason to take a second look.
