Hey all,

Anyone have any good recommendations for wall mounted magnetic knife strips for carbon knives? I use a bunch and find that if I’m not really careful (hot water wash, good towel dry and possibly oil) I’ll get rust on the parts of the knives sticking to the walls where the water doesn’t evaporate. I’ve tried a few solutions and none that work. I have strips that are latticed thinking that it would give more ventilation. I’ve tried sticking a thin leather over some and I have plain wood ones. Has anyone come up w a good hack for this?

The problem is either I have too many knives to use on a regular enough basis to not form rust or a design flaw in the magnetic strips I’m using. It’s gotta be the strips…

Got couple Piotr The Bear magnetic racks, maybe the leather surface helped a bit but I usually wipe my blades before putting it on too.

Try swiping well against a paper towel roll (Thanks to @ian ). I give a quick swipe prior on dish cloth first just to get major water off.
That sounds better than the microfiber towels I’ve been using. I have a couple of super reactive knives I should just let patina that never seem to get dry enough not to rust if I leave them on rack for a few weeks

I have the Noyer large walnut and been really happy with it. Good grab without being  too magnetized. I had a Messermeister one that wanted to rip them from your hands. CKTG has them for a good price

I live in Florida with high humidity and haven't had any rust issues

I've had this happen a handful of times. Basically the problem is that there's still some residual moisture on the blade. My solution has been to let the blades air dry for a while after the tea towel to make sure they're fully dry. Haven't had any problems since.

What Jovidah said.

I have had a solid bar type wooded magnetic rack for about two years. The carbon knives I have do not rust on it or discolor the wood but I make sure my knives are totally dry before putting them on the rack.

Wash with soap and water, towel dry, let sit on counter until fully dry. Doing this I have had no problems and I live in a very humid area.

I stole the idea from someone else here years ago. Before the tape, the bar could scratch the knife so I needed cheap results.
Even cheaper, I ordered a bunch of leather samples from furniture stores. Cut the square down fit behind the knife and stick to the board with double sided tape. Protects the knife and you can still see the wood between them. Best part, the leather is free!
