Talk about clearing out a drawer, I won this in Feb of 2014 from Tosho Knife Arts

. Test cut a few things and tucked it away as I did not take to single bevels.

Hard to find info on this specific one on quick google searches (I am unfamiliar with the brand and single bevels in general), but apparently it retailed for $325 in 2014 so lets go $300 shipped CONUS.

Edge is 230x42mm, 207 grams. Let me know if you would like additional pics or info.

I am a bit curious as well. The other winner in Feb 2014 stated that the retail price back then was $325 and sold his for $275.

I wonder if it is a price thing and/or availability?
 
Market value I’d say 3X / 4X his asking price..

OP the combination of smith and sharpener doesn’t exist anymore so they are pretty valuable especially in NIB condition like this, driven up mainly by a cult like following and rarity. Ginsan konosukes are some of the rarest they produced and most sought after. (I also own some)

I’m all for a deal, but there are forum members on here that would put this up there as one of their dream knives. Don’t be afraid to renegotiate in those DM’s.

wow. congrats to buyer on an incredible deal. im just confused that the OP has been on the board 13 years, has 2500 posts, won this knife from tosho in 2014 and is unfamiliar with the brand Konosuke…???? how is that even possible
 
I don't go in on high end Japanese knives, and the only real data point I had was a decade old value. I was guessing that the value was probably in the $500-600 range, but am surprised at the $1,000 estimate. I pay much more attention to western makers.

I had intended all along to heavily discount what I thought the value was since it was a free knife to me. I guess I could have posted a thread to get opinions, but it was only a few hundred dollar knife to begin with.....I did not think it went up in value like a Shig. Shame on me I guess and good luck on the speed of the buyer.

We are Tosho Knife Arts based out of Toronto, Canada. For those of you who don't know us, we sell exclusively hand forged Japanese knifes as well as sharpening stones (both synthetic and natural), and woodworking tools.

Sorry, I mailed it soon after it was sold. The buyer said he got it to use, not sure if he will answer your curiosity.

Basically just plain flat, most likely with a slight concave curve if my scant knowledge of single edge knives holds true. Nothing special, just unblemished steel.
 
Dammit that one would have felt really nice in my Ginsan line up!

Curious though given the 2014 release, another user was mentioning a combo of smith x sharpener that does not exist anymore. Any insight? (I would imagine Morihiro was the sharpener and Ginsanmight mean that the blade was from Shiraki Hamono as I do not remember Yoshikazu Tanaka punching out some Ginsan?)
 
Unfortunately I have zero insight to share. Even discounting that I never pay that much attention to who sharpens what, my google-fu failed to provide more info on this.....again I was not trying very hard. If I had more info, it would have led to a higher asking price. I could not easily find a comparable knife.

The folks at Tosho probably has a lot more info, but it is already out of my hands so I will not be digging any deeper.
