This one has very dramatic distal taper. Excellent edge holding in my use. Some scratches on the cladding, excellent condition otherwise.

Man, Vanadis core steel seems SO super interesting the more I read about it.
 
I've only touched it up, but didn't have trouble with gesshin 4k and 6k. The core is very thin behind the edge so not a lot of material needs to be removed. Vanadis 23 is also at that threshold where it still works with regular stones.
 
Thin toward the tip. Starts out with 4.6 mm or something and goes thin. The grind is interesting because it is actually the thickest somewhere in the middle of the blade not at the spine. So looks sort of like (). Because of the this it is stiffer than you might think looking at the spine and also has some convexity even at the thinner parts.
 
Out of the steels used for kitchen knives, at least to some degree, it compares to zwear. They are in the same class of steels as far as kitchen knives are concerned. Vanadis 23 is closest to CPM-M4 out of steels that are used in knives in general, but CPM-M4 is rarely used in kitchen knives.
