Man I wish I hadn‘t blown my budget on things that aren’t this. I bet this would brunoise all my other knives and still shave hair. If I were fighting a guy wielding the Honjo Masamune I’d want to have a Mazaki honyaki in my hand. Betcha as soon as you touch the handle you turn into a fusion of Thomas Keller and Musashi Miyamoto. Glws

eta: how’s the cutting feel? Do you have to use any pressure or do you wave it at things that then fall apart neatly sliced after a suitable dramatic pause? And is the activation phrase you shout while holding it aloft in English or Japanese?

Obviously you just need to wave it at whatever you want to cut, softly whispering “yah-mete kudasai” while biting your lower lip.

How else would the hamon stay fresh and visible…?

$2000 shipped.
Matches the previous one sold just a few weeks ago. And I believe this is a longer piece.

Happy to discuss trades.

What the height and HRC on this?
The height at the heel is 53.5

Don’t really know the answer to the HRC question. Mazaki is said to take White to Blue levels. Some claim his Whites are 64-65, but who really knows or have tested the veracity of that statement. Except that users will tell u that his White is really hard.

Having said that, one can reasonably conclude that his honyaki will be at the hardness of whatever he forges Blue1 to. No reason why a honyaki that is Blue1 will be any harder than a cladded Blue1. Not sure if anything north of 65 HRC for that matter really matters to the discussion.
