Inspired by a recent kkf reference to Morimoto's book, I decided to try a couple of his recipes for my wife and mother of my two sons.

Prep work with Devin ITK on a walnut Boardsmith board.

Pork gyoza with rustic tomato sauce. I decided to skip the bacon-cream reduction; maybe I'll try it next time.

Presentation isn't the greatest, and I cook so slowly. That's why this isn't my day job.

What did you cook for the mom(s) in your life?

Cheers,

Mark

Nice, Mark!

We went a lot less intensive:

Mussels w/ garlic, red onion, white wine and parsley
Panzenella, using rustic Italian bread my wife baked earlier in the day
Grilled ribeyes and zucchini
Strawberries, raspberries and blueberries in pastry dough shells w/ Grand Marnier-flavored whipped cream

Ain't nothing wrong with that, David! Grilled ribeyes and zucchini are a household favorite. The other dishes on your menu sound great, too. I had to look up panzenella; I've never had it.

Funny you ask. I was going to make a nice neal my wife can have (shes off eggs, dairy, gluten) and was going to make steaks with a shallot/mushroom/port reduction and green beans almondine. The checkout guy said we couldn't buy port on sunday because its 18% alcohol. I completely froze up at the news. It took me 2 hours to come up with a meal she can have and I can get ingredients for.

That, and our execution rate, are the stupidest things about Texas.

We had gluten free chicken pasta. Nice dinner tomorrow.

If my Mom hadn't been 10,000 miles away, I would have made small pork schnitzels with new potatoes and insane amounts of fresh white asparagus - turns out, that was what my family in Germany had on Mother's Day (well, except for the insane amounts, that is usually my privilege).

Love a good port. Wiskey and Wine mixed. Makes for a great night.

Bummer. Enjoy tomorrow.

Nothing better for cooking with the family then dumplings. All I want to do on holiday is stand around in the kitchen and catch up the folks.

Maybe not in the spirit of mothers day, but forcing them to fold gyoza keeps sleepy elderly parents from heading off to watch tv while I finish dinner.

Good color on yours, better than my first go at it!
