Are the nakiri's as thick and wedgy as some of what I've read regarding the larger gyutos?
Any other inputs?

Two tastes of Moritaka KU. Gyuto is new, Nakiri has been washed once.

I'm joking, it's not that bad. Got the Nakiri in 2018 and used it quite a bit.
I used to love Nakiris, until I got really into cleavers Now I only like and appreciate Nakiris.
But yeah, I have a Moritaka AS 180mm Nakiri, I bought that around 2016 when they sold directly to customers.
It isn't thick and wedgy at all, even though I eased the shoulders at some point and that made it even better.
Here it is. I can take a choil shot soom.
I like it - you've got to appreciate iron cladding of course, and what is very special about them is that the profile is dead-straight.
It has it's perks in that you have a tip, but since rocking is almost impossible, it is a bit impactical to use. Then again, rounding of the front part won't take long if that's all that's keeping you.
The steel is very nice as well. For how affordable it is, a very nice AS option. Although I can't say that the (even) more affordable Blue#2 is noticeably worse..
They're not so expensive to get, so why not try one
I used to have a Moritaka AS 180 nakiri. It was one of the best Nakiris I had. It was thin, light (for a 180 size), not wedgy. I liked the near-sharp tip. I was waiting for mine for almost a year (one of my friends imports knife in CZ). I later got curios about other knives and sold it, but I would be more than happy to still have it today (my current nakiri is a stainless clad Toyama 180). The HT on the AS was great too.

I had one in blue #2 from Bill

It was great, truly the toyota camry of nakiris (I drive a camry and love em)
One of the few knives I miss
I own a 165 AS since 4 years I think, which say it all.
Steel is great, good bite, good edge retention, sharpens easily.
Been going on the cleaver side for a test, owned a wat and a kurosaki, decided they were not for me...
Therefore I'm lurking for its big brother, a 180mm. But I'm kind of intrigued by the step in heel height. 49mm for the 165 Vs 60mm for the 180.
Any thoughts?
Make it AS please
Does not hurt to ask.I'm pretty sure this one is a 165
Make it AS please
Sorry for hijacking this, but is seems a logical place for a Moritaka question...if it bugs the OP let me know and I will delete it.

Have been on the lookout for a Takeda but they are rarer than good lottery numbers. I like the size of this, Has anyone tried it?
Cheers.
Need a pic of your full rectangle collection soonOut for delivery.
I’ve been using mine for a couple years. Great little knife. Like a budget, smaller, version of the takeda.Sorry for hijacking this, but is seems a logical place for a Moritaka question...if it bugs the OP let me know and I will delete it.

Meanwhile the Homi Kajiya is thinking “what did I do wrong? Was I wearing too much lacquer? I thought it would be between me and my sibling … then this new guy shows up!”
