I've picked up a pretty Wakasa koppa from Maxim that's 135mm x 90mm x 35mm. It's slightly wedge-shaped so while the top is flat it is not level. To level it I need to raise the low side about 5mm. This is a $75 rock on a homemade fir base that looks nice and I'll probably gift to a friend when it's finished. What are the pros and cons of not leveling the stone and mounting it slightly sloped?

For that size I would probably use the stone in my hand and not worry about a base. If I really needed it to be a bench stone I still probably wouldn't attach it to a base. I would use tape and epoxy. Turn the stone upside down. Build a dam around the outside with masking tape. Fill it with epoxy. The epoxy is self leveling. Then you can use a stone holder (smaller stones will usually fit in standard holders if you take out the middle piece of rubber) or just set the thing on a towel and it will be level.

Here's some other resources

Matus' walk-through on mounting a koppa to a wood base

Thanks, Stringer. Matus’s approach is pretty much what I followed. I just finished it last night. Ended up in letting the stone into the base. The Wood isn’t anything fancy, just some Doug fir. I wanted a base since this will be a bench stone for tool sharpening and I need two hands for that.
