Finally made it on to Milan’s list, but who knows when (if ever) I’ll be drawn…

Would love to try his beefier newer style of grind in wrought cladding for the polishing fun.

Thought I’d throw in a shout out for those others too whilst I’m here…

Giving this a bit of an early bump for the European crowd!

Another day another unsuccessful Milan draw (for me).

Happy to put up some unicorns and other bangers in trade too for the right wrought workhorse.

This got insta-buried yesterday, so giving it another apologetic bump

Come on my dudes, I will plumb the depths of my collection for the right offer!

Come on someone put me out of my misery

Adding a few other (also quite hard to get lol) makers.

Interested in taking on a Yamada project, but only for the right price...

Putting one more feeler out there for a while.

Hi there,
I'm being curious : what are the specific criteria which make you so desperate to put your hands on a Milan or Yannick ? I mean they are great knives for sure, but why specifically one of those two makers ? I know both of them so I have my own opinion, but am always interested to understand what make others be so eager of their knives 🫣

It’s a fair question 🙂

I have really enjoyed getting to try out the knives made by a lot of different makers - everyone has different ways of making their work, different things they prioritise in the final product, different quirks etc.

The handful of knives made by Milan that I’ve used were very very neatly made with a nice heat treat and great geometry. Obviously that’s not to say that other makers aren’t also putting out incredible stuff, but the combination of aesthetics, performance and ease of maintenance/polishing in his knives just clicks for me 🤷‍♂️.

I’ve only had the chance to try out his older middleweight stuff though - if I can get hold of one of his newer, more heavyweight knives then I’ll be happy to leave it there (probably).

Yanick is an unknown quantity for me, but his knives also look very neat, he does a naughty distal taper, I like wrought, and I like a workhorse grind. I’m less sure whether I would 100% gel with one of his knives given that low bevels are hit or miss for me and I prefer his older profiles with a taller tip, but I won’t know until I try it!

Scarcity drives hype and generates WTB posts like mine, but I also highly rate Brooke Turner, Joel Black, Bryan Raquin, Simon Maillet etc - they’re just a lot more attainable without having to try as hard.

I fully understand your point of view, and thanks for sharing it with me :) Both those makers are incredibly talented ! As a maker myself I was juyst wondering what makes up such a reputation that people actually seek the knives actively rather than turning to some other maker doing similar things (the ones you mentioned such as Simon, Raquin, etc...)...
Good luck with your search then !

Back on my silly hunt for some longer examples!

Keen to discuss cash/trades as I can offer some nice western bangers.

Not really into pointy triangle profiles, but let’s talk.
