Hello all - I just found this forum and it looks like a nice bunch of folks. I've followed DevinT and his son Larrin for a good while on other knife making forums. I make knives on a hobby basis, sold a few, but nowhere near enough to cover expenses, much less tool investment. Still, in my retirement I find knifemaking cheaper than bass boats, hanging out in bars, or golf {g}

Welcome brother, looking forward to seeing some of your knives!

Thank ya'll for the warm welcome. Here are a couple of knives I've made. The set was made for my granddaughter's 18th birthday and her "hope chest" (have those gone out of style these days?). Handles are stabilized Koa with homemade "K" pins in center of handle with corby's at each end. Steel is AEB-L (one of my favorite) HT'd to 60Rc hardness. Next is one I made for the wife, again with AEB-L at 60Rc with stabilized American Black Walnut with maple spacer.

Beautiful knives, and AEB-L at that hardness should be super tough and take a great edge - i've had it at 63 HRC and still been very impressed by its toughness.

welcome!

Thank ya'll for the nice comments. I've been using 60Rc for my target Rc for kitchen knives, but based on reports lately such as your report I'm thinking of going up in my hardness. BUT - that is balanced with the ease of sharpening. While I don't have any problem sharpening, some of my users might have more of a problem. I'm still thinking this thru.

Again, thanks for nice comments.
