I’m looking for a great honesuki and bunka knive(s) both in preferable sg2 and with custom wooden handles. Price range is 150-250 dollars each. Also I’m new to the knife forum!

Thanks and God Bless,

Ethan Dan

Hi Ethan,

Some of the Echizen or Takefu Knife Village makers are the ones you're most likely to find making the bunka within the $250.00 range for sg2/r2 steel. These include Shiro Kamo, Yoshimi Kato/Yoshimi Echizen, Kei Kobayashi, or Yu & Makoto Kurosaki. Unfortunately, unless there's a significant sale you're unlikely to find a custom handle on one in that price range.

I'll second the honesuki comment above. The only maker I've seen do these in this steel is Nigara, but they'll run at a much higher price:

They have several honesuki here or they also sell a "k-tip nakiri" which is basically just a taller version of the bunka:

There is however this butcher that's close to your range:

Happy Hunting!
