New at the whetstone game...I’ve gotten comfy getting a good edge on the flats but I’m struggling with the tip. Any suggestions?

Everything you're doing now, but raise your elbow (dominant hand controlling the angle) when you get near the tip. You'll see a finer line of dark abraded steel on the stone when you're working the tip that way. Then lower your elbow again for the rest of the blade. Adjust as needed, depending on how sharp the curve is towards the tip.

I'm no expert sharpener, but that works for me.

Lift your knife up while remaining the same angle. See the water on your stone get push out. Move your knife tip like you are rocking

I do it Murray Carter style by rocking the tip as you sharpen. That’s the fastest way to achieve a burr on the edge regardless of position, even on flats.
