Newham Chef Knife
Size: 222 x 50 mm
Weight: 261 grams
Steel/Finish: 1095/wrought iron cladding (forged by Aiden Clark)
Finish: polished
Handle: wrought iron, brass, and honduran rosewood burl
Geometry: workhorse with amazing distal taper

This is one of likely several that I'll post in the coming days as I've gotten to the point of having too many knives that aren't seeing use as I keep going back to the same 4-5 knives. I picked this one up in a package from the "Knife Addict Complete Kit" post. I really wanted to try a Newham knife and I'm a sucker for wrought iron so I couldn't resist. The knife is stunning and handled beautifully in the very limited use I had. Unfortunately, I prefer something a little larger (ideally in the ~250mm range). I ended up grabbing a little larger gyuto from Will's most recent drop along with a smaller knife from BST so I'm afraid this is the odd man out. I paid $850.00 as part of the package and am asking the same price shipped in CONUS or Canada.

Have you got a good experience with 1095? Love this steel. GLWS.

Other than some old factory made stuff in 1095 that was a bit soft (think Old Hickory or similar), yes. It might not be one of the fancy new carbon steels like Apex Ultra, but it's tried and true if treated well. I have both Forgecraft's and custom knives in it that are great.

This one is a real beauty, the profile is just too curvy for me. GLWS

Alrighty, given the IRS update and the fact that I spent all Christmas Eve loving playing with the Newham above this in the pictures, I'll drop to a random ass number of $790.00.

It’s also heftier, heavier and much more tapered than his other stuff which is why it’s particularly painful to pass on this one… I wish he would do all his stuff like this honestly.
I'm 100% with you on this and it's what attracted me to this piece in the first place. It beefy as hell at the heel, but thin behind the edge and the distal taper is extreme (I wouldn't actually modify it as it would be a travesty to ruin this distal taper). I couldn't really capture the distal taper well in the picture as it gets blurry at the tip. I will try and get a better picture and measurements tomorrow.
