Delighted that football season’s back—here we are heading into week three. So far it’s been quite an exciting first two weeks IMHO.

Some highlights and surprises for me:
  • Kirk Cousins and the Falcons on the road, beating the Eagles late.
  • How ‘bout them Saints embarrassing the Cowboys.
  • Watching the top rookie QBs Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye—and older QBs on new teams Derek Carr, Russel Wilson, Kirk Cousins, Aaron Rogers (last season didn’t count)
My 49ers are often touted as SB contenders—although, the team’s not clicking yet; injuries are a big worry; this is a make or break season before 49ers gotta stump up for Purdy; I’m cautiously optimistic but nervous.

How’s your team?

As a Bears fan, I'm used to disappointment and have been conditioned for it. This year is no different. I know it's only two games, but our QB history has been so spectacularly bad, that deep down, every Bears fan is not surprised by it. Their offensive line is horrible, I just hope they can fix it before they irreparably ruin Caleb's confidence. On the other hand, their first two games have been against some very good defenses (Houston and Tennessee), and they have a "get well" defense this weekend (Indy), so I'm hoping for better things tomorrow!

How’d you become a Bears fan? From your screen name, I’m assuming you’re in Hawaii—which is a 49er stronghold.
Hope the Bears do well, Caleb will surely find his feet. Part of the excitement of this season is watching the top 3 draft pick QBs do.

I was born in Chicago. I don't live in Hawaii, but I developed an affinity for Molokai after many trips there.. that island is not for everyone, but I sure love it 🤙

So far after three games:
• My 49ers aren’t living up to the hype of SB contenders; flaws galore especially on the defensive side; notable queue to the rehab room; Aiyuk is rusty.
• For the neutral it’s a fascinating season, full of surprises—Commanders look the real deal; Bengals 0-3; Jags suck; Saints/Carr are solid; Seattle topping NFC West; Aaron Rogers awesome in the last game; whao, Fields having fun in Pittsburgh; etc.
• Tua should retire.

NFL star Samoan Junior Seau committed suicide because of brain̈ disease caused by concussions. Many Older players live in physical & mental pain because of injuries.

Jim Plunkett was often injured throughout his career. Back when defensive players could slam QB's to the ground. Talks about how he lives in chronic pain. He won two Superbowels with Raiders before all the protections for QB. Only QB to win two, most valuable player in SB various other awards but no Hall of Fame.

This season is full of surprise. Chefs only still undefeated team with Mahommes throwing stats almost non existent last couple games. Their defense is solid.

Washington Commanders not scrub team this year. QB Jayden Daniel's playing better than most other first year rookies. He got brused ribs first quarter ended in field goal. Backup Marcus Mariota came in first series three & out. After that got hot multiple drives down field for scoring drives, field goals, rushing & two Arial touchdowns. He was thowing into some tight windows with accuracy. 18-23 no turnovers. It was good to see Marcus have a great game even if against the Panthers. 40-7. He is happy to be playing on a tight knit Commanders team even as a backup.

I'm not surprised by the Hawaiian guy rooting for Mariota :) . He's a good guy, I root for him too, but I hope Jayden Daniels is healed up in time for this upcoming week's matchup against my Bears. It will be the #1 pick vs. the #2 pick. Should be a great game!

At 3-4, injuries galore, a nightmarish season for my 49ers.

NFC: wouldn’t mind Washington, Atlanta, Houston going far—I selfishly just don’t want Cowboys, Eagles, or Rams to have any glory.

AFC: don’t care, just not the Chiefs in SB.

Hawaii sports fans are weird (I say this adoringly). Lots of islanders like cheering on teams with local talent or Asians—Mets during the Sid Fernandez/Ron Darling era; Dolphins because of Tua. My family are all Dodger fans now because of Ohtani. Weirdly, many locals I know get much more excited about college and high school sports than pro.

Yeah, it's been a crazy season with injuries, with SF being hit especially hard. Also, who had Washington, Seattle, and Minnesota as division leaders at this point in the season?

Ohtani is building a huge mansion on Big Island too... plans on living there during the offseason.

Didn’t see the Buccs game, but heard they had a couple of bad injuries.
It’s been exciting seeing some of the young guns shooting it out—Daniels, Fields, Nix, Caleb, Love, Stroud …

A lot of islanders like San Francisco saw the flags & stickers come out last year. Going back to Joe Montana days. Was a Fan back then. After and still a Seahawks fan glad when they finally won a SB. They should have had repeat had the game won time running out, Patriots lucked out. Oakland Raiders were popular in Islands too. My support of San Fran. last SB put it on my Subaru for couple weeks.

Your right Hawaii probably on̈ly place that has running commentary on TV & Newspaper on all the players with Hawaii ties. Not only in Sports. Movies, American Idol. Little league baseball.
Of coarse TV & Newspaper were reporting that Marcus Mariota had a good game as backup. Of coarse he was humble giving all credit to Players & Coaches help supporting him when Daniel's got brused ribs.

My dad watches a TV station that shows past UH football matches, …but only the ones that UH won.

Davone Bess & Colt Brennan after undefeated regular season. That is till they played Georgia in bowl game. Watched it on TV. Georgia defense players were huge compared to Hawaii. View attachment 358413
Interestingly, lots of the Hawaii people I know get super excited about the Little League World Series. Not my cup of tea. That said, my family can’t understand my excitement with cricket, especially the Ashes (England vs Australia). FWIW, King Kamehameha IV was a huge cricket fan.

Topsy turvy, helter skelter NFL season so far—49ers in last place, 'hawks in 1st of NFC West; Commanders, 1st in NFC East; NFC North seems like 'The Group of Death,' amazed Bears are last with a 4-2 record; AFC will bore me if it's Chiefs going to the SB again; still can't fathom Browns giving Deshuan 250 million in guaranteed money.
If my 49ers can't turn it around—wouldn't mind seeing Falcons vs Texans SB.

I'm like alot of folks root for underdogs.
Atlanta & Texans haven't won a SB. Atlanta was receiving end of greatest comeback ever in SB with Tom Brady.

I think Browns & Commanders will be a good game this week two well coached up & coming teams with skill players.

You mean Bears/Commanders, yeah I agree, looking forward to that, …if it’s aired in Hawaii. Of course, I’ll be on the edge of my seat watching Cowboys/49ers.
