Nice! What are your thoughts on the Nigara? I have not used one yet!
Obviously I've only been able to use it for a few days so my thoughts will still be mostly first impressions but they are good impressions.
I'm not usually taken by the cosmetic effects used on a lot of knives but I really like how this one is done. It looks great. Yeah, it might nudge against the gaudy line for some, but I think it stops appropriately short of that. The contrasts are nice. The F&F is excellent right down to the sealed handle.
The size and design of the knife provide it enough heft to have the authoritative feel that is lacking in some lasers but it isn't heavy. And, as you aptly described, it is a laser. Or at least damn close to one depending on the terminology tolerance of the user. But no matter what descriptor one wants to slap on it, it slices very nicely! It has a bit of stiction but that is endemic to most lasers so it can't really be held against this particular knife.
It is flat. If you're a rocker of any sort, this is probably not your knife. The flat profile and sharp tip make for very shallow angles off the board. But if push cutting is your game, this thing is fantastic! The dimensions further support this cut-style bias by providing enough length to be practical for most jobs and enough height to allow ample clearance and a strong feel without either being too much. From super fine diced garlic to thick sweet potatoes, this one can cover it.
Overall a really fun knife and one I think a lot of people would like.
That said, I do think my Moritaka nakiri edges it out ever so slightly. But this is largely personal preference. I like "traditional" nakiri's and I really like Moritaka's version of one. But, if I didn't have that knife, then the Nigara would suit me right down to the ground.
If anyone has specific questions let me know.
