This article says that mature crab numbers are down are but juvenile numbers are up, probably due to limiting the fishing season previously. Looking pretty hopeful for recovery but I wonder how long it'll be until we really start doing something about overfishing. Amberjack had a reduced season in the Gulf this year as well due to a lower than expected fish stock

Yeah that is the crux of the problem. My local grocery store sells live king crab for $50/lb, assuming you get a smaller one and it's 5lbs that's a $250 crab. That is eye wateringly expensive for a dinner to me and probably the average person as well. I have to wonder how much crab gets thrown out because it doesn't sell, and if we really need to be harvesting as much as we are. Getting off into speculation territory though and I'm not too well versed on crab economics so I'll stop there
