Ohira Magic...

These are luxury stones.
All unicorn tools without any trade off.

#1
Ao Renge

197*83*27mm
$1050 shipped worldwide

Very quick „bling bling“ mirror core and hazy clad.
Highest contrast in color and texture.
Awesome feeling.

#2
the largest Ohira uchigumori and absolute kasumi killer

210*74*72mm
2796 g!
Middle hardness, optimal for kasumi
$950 shipped worldwide

World class kasumi: highest color contrast. Satin/semi-mirror core and matte clad.
Elegant finish but very forgiving.
Awesome feeling and very stable due to its weight (almost 3kg).
This stone will be heirloom.

3) ultimate uchigumori for honyaki

206*76*34mm
Ultimate honyaki hardness on the blue/grey side
Slightly softer on the white side

$950 shipped worldwide

From the 3-400 uchigumori I've had over the years this has been the softest.
It gives the mattest and whitest surface on honyaki.
The white side is perfect for preparing the blade and erasing previous scratches.
It has some lines that I dug but this is not relevant considering how awesome the result is.
The other side wich is a bit harder gives you this finish:

Alternatives to #2

Here are some Uchigumoris that perform in a very similar way to the ones above but for much cheaper.
They all give about this finish:

$380 shipped worldwide

World class kasumi: highest color contrast. Satin/semi-mirror core and matte clad.
Elegant finish but very forgiving.
Top feeling. Feels very dense
Slightly harder than #2 but not finer.

#6-sold

World class kasumi: highest color contrast. Satin/semi-mirror core and matte clad.
Elegant finish but very forgiving.
Top feeling.
Slightly softer than 2#.
This is the only of this bunch that could be used on a honyaki too.
It whitens the blade very well.
#6 remembers me a bit of one of my favorite Uchigumori. It is much softer and more for honyaki but the feeling on #6 is close.

#7- sold

World class kasumi: highest color contrast. Satin/semi-mirror core and matte clad.
Elegant finish but very forgiving.
Not the stone with the best feeling of the bunch but the result on the blade is wonderful.
Similar to #5 but a bit finer.

#8- sold

World class kasumi: highest color contrast. Satin/semi-mirror core and matte clad.
Elegant finish but very forgiving.
Naturally not the same size and slightly coarser but it remembers much of #2 about the feeling.

#9
164*52*21mm
sealed
$190 shipped worldwide

World class kasumi: highest color contrast. Satin/semi-mirror core and matte clad.
Elegant finish but very forgiving.
The feeling is awesome. Very creamy but not sticky.
Slightly softer than #2 but fine grain size

#10
165*55*20mm

$175 shipped worldwide

World class kasumi: highest color contrast. Satin/semi-mirror core and matte clad.

Alternatives to the grey/blue side from #3
For best results, you should soak these stones 10-15 minutes in fresh water before use.
Soft uchigumori always soak water very fast. Soaking gives you a longer slurry and cleaner results.

These stones are a bit harder than #3 but still among the softest you can find anywhere.
Combined to soft finger stones you can get an approaching resut.

#13 -sold

Typical uchigumori for honyaki knives.
Not as soft as #3 but very soft. It should be the softest uchigumori you've ever tried.
It gives a nice matte haze and whitens the blade very well.

#14
177*63*43mm
$330 shipped worldwide

Typical uchigumori for honyaki knives.
Slightly harder than 12# but the grain size is the same.
Same haze but slightly less white blade.

#15
161*69*40mm
sealed
$260 shipped

100% same as #13. They are from the same stone.

#16
162*52*20mm
sealed
$170

Typical uchigumori for honyaki knives.
Slightly harder than 13# but the grain size is the same.
Same haze but slightly less white blade.
Hardest of the bunch.
You can use it for kasumi.

Alternative to the white side from 3)

#17 from Narutaki
180mm*68mm*26mm
$200 shipped

this one is not an Uchigumori and even if it has a similar grain size and hardness, it doesn't have this uchigumori "magic" that gives a very white ha.
The white side of 3) gives jaw dropping results on honyaki, even as finisher. Whitest hagane.
The Narutaki doesn't but it does a similar job as pre-finisher due to its grain size and hardness.

Harder stones: Not a true alternative to the Ao Renge but this goes in this direction.

These two are Ohira Uchigumori Jizuya so, harder than the others but wonderful finishers on kitchen knives. Very fine.

They give an awesome semi-mirror/mirror core and a very high contrast with the clad.

#18
196*67*36mm
sealed
$380

In the direction of mirror core but with still high contrast with the clad.
The grain size is very fine.

#19
181*61*23mm
sealed
$230 shipped worldwide

In the direction of mirror core but with still high contrast with the clad.
Very close to#17. Slightly finer grain

Many, many PM about how the stone X, Y or Z performs ...

..SoI tested them again and again.
Spotting differences was pretty tough!
I edited the descriptions.

Taking pictures of the surface resulting of each stone was just impossible! You wouldn't look how the stone performs but how many millimeters the blade moved compared to the other picture.. or the light or many parameters.

Here is a picture of the surface with stone #2 . (central third of the picture)
Very beautiful finish. It is my vision of kasumi and very clean so it doesn't really need finger stones.
You can click to enlarge the picture and read but if the blade was closer to the green packet, you could see the text very clearly.
The further the reflected object, the less the mirror effect.

BTW, I'll put some finger stones in the parcel along each stone. ;-)
