This isn't the kind of Uchi we come accross very often.

The stone colors are very, very accurate to when you see them in real life.
And as you can see, both look pretty different, both perform differently.

The perfect hazy uchigumori. You will get a surface that literally traps the light! Your blade will look scratch free very, very fast. And this even watching at the closest distance. Fantastic on Kasumi (clad), my very best bet on honyaki.

I am sorry in advance for the lazy video. I‘ll update the thread with more (and hopefully!) pics.

The stone himself looks ridiculous, doesn't it ;-)
You will get a spectacular kasumi. The clad will be hazy and the the core will lean toward semi-mirror. This uchi has the right hardness to show show some fine details from the steel and iron and a hint of silver effect. This stone has also the right softness to make the blade look scratch free, even very close.
#2 is an incredible, top finisher for kasumi. You will say it is my taste: I'd say slightly too fine for honyaki ;-)

You are probably thinking the tests aren't 100% accurate. And you're right, a millimeter shift here or there can make dramatical differences.
However you can click to enlarge and get an idea of how these two Ohira Uchigumori perform under different lightings.

_How they "trap" the light and make scratches become invisible.
(the kind of torture test for chromatic aberrations on a camera lens :) )

Everyone knows Nutmeg has the best Uchi. If he says these are the best, it’s hard to imagine there are much better ones in existence.
Thank you very much.

Best is always difficult to describe.
I couldn’t leave some of my favorite ones which are especially large or pure

But #1, #2 or even this huge one looks so spectacular and so perfect.. :)
