I recently bought a Shapton Glass 1000 from Amazon, didn't think much of it until I realized it was from a private seller rather than any official vendor or Shapton themselves. It also arrived the next day so it was most certainly not imported from Japan to fulfill the order, it was already in the UK in the hands of a private seller who had 3 more in stock in addition to a lot of other assorted, non-knife related goods. When it arrived, the packaging seemed fine but upon opening it up the sides of the stone were quite grey rather than pristine white like the face of the stone. It also bears a "VIKING TOOLS" logo on the side of the stone itself, which is the main thing that has me dubious. Looking at unboxing videos of the same stone, I've never seen a logo on the side of the stone only what looks to be the serial number which is on the opposite side. Comparing the specifications to those listed on the official Shapton site, the dimensions seem accurate enough but Shapton list the weight of the product as approx 360 grams, while mine weighs 392 grams. Am I being paranoid or might this be a much cheaper stone attached to the back of a convincing looking replica (or even genuine taken from an actual Shapton stone) tempered glass panel? I'm yet to use it, thinking it being unused would help me return it if necessary, nor would I be able to tell its genuineness by using it. Any help would be massively appreciated!
