Has anyone used both (specifically) the Shibata Kotetsu R2 versus Makoto Kurosaki R2 and can you share thoughts on how these two laser R2s compare and how you would choose between them? Also, why do some prefer the Shibata Aogami Super over the R2?

6. Go back to Razorsharp Pte Ltd
7. Buy some sharpening stones, like one in the 800-2k range

What’s your favorite knife you've used so far? What did you like about it? What preferences do you have? What’s your cutting style you like?

It really doesn’t matter what everyone else thinks if you have zero context to apply to it.

Buy the one you think is more pretty.
Get a frame of reference.
Wonder what could have been.
Buy the other.
Wonder if you'd actually prefer carbon.
Choose a steel.
Choose a maker.
Rinse and repeat.

They both cut like a knife.
Seriously, you are in Singapore so why don't you just call up Razorsharp, set up an appointment, and pick their brains for knives you might be interested in. If you can't reach them physically due to C19, you could always try to email them as well.

I've only experience with Makoto. The sg2 is an entirely different beast from the white2. The white2 is a bit thicker at the handle, with some taper. It gets real thin, with a very thin tip. The sg2 is real thin from the start. It's a true laser, and maybe a bit thinner behind the edge and tip than typical Sakai style lasers. It cuts well, but is missing that nuanced convexity that comes with having some meat on the bones. The white2 achieves this in spades. Shibata is known to be a laser beam, so I would guess they are quite similar in performance. The Makoto would probably be the better value, and still offers nicely rounded spine and choil and a decent stock handle.

Chainsaw or coping saw? Sintered or resin? Chapstick or Vaseline?

Depends on what you are using Vaseline for...it degrades latex...
