Hi there,

I am interested in getting a reasonably priced knife to practice some basics of polishing and sharpening with. I am open to ideas/offers but I think I would prefer a wide, double-bevel gyuto (any size). Iron or mild steel cladding please :). I will consider chips, tips, or other damage if the price is right. US-based.

If you want a full project knife for thinning and maybe rehandle, I have a 10in forgecraft in decent shape. It's mono though, so you don't get the fun of polishing cladding. Hit me up if interested.

I have a couple of cheap and very wabi sabi Tosa bunka (165mm iron clad blue 2 IIRC) that I got from Bernal Cutlery a few years ago and some Korean fish monger knives that are a full flat grind on a simple carbon steel core and I want to say are in the 190-200mmish x 60mm+ range. Neither are wide bevel, but they are double bevels that would be cheap beaters to practice on. If you're interested, I can dig them up and send you some pictures. The Korean knife I'd give you for postage and the Tosa wouldn't be much more.

Normally I'd send this via PM, but if anyone is interested in the Korean knives I have around 10-15 of them and the offer is open. When friends or colleagues want to try a carbon knife I give them one of these to see if they will maintain them before moving to an upgrade. Here's one that I slapped a new handle on and ground a finger notch into for reference, but I should note that they come with a very basic round handle (some sort of pine I'm guessing) with a stamped steel collar.
