In an effort to reduce the number of gyutos I have lying around in drawers (and in knife rolls, my workshop, work, on my rack, etc) I have to thin the herd a little more. Who am I kidding? I want to fund new knives!
First up is one of my earlier purchases. I don't remember what year I got it frankly. It is an iron damascus clad blue#2 210 from S. Tanaka. It has seen professional use and has been sharpened several times. Could probably use a thinning. It has a nice rosewood handle with a brass faceplate. I swap out most of my handles and make new ones, but this is nice enough that I never wanted to. I did make a rosewood saya with an metalic flake epoxy inlay.
Length 204mm
Height 47
weight 177 g
I eased the spine and choil for your comfort. $175 includes PP fees and shipping in the CONUS.
Next up is a mono steel 52100 from Sean Fernandez. This is a tall, hardy produce slayer reminiscient of a Kramer 10. I bought it on BST and it was tipped in transit. I affected the tip repair, and ground off quite a bit of a very portly butt end of the handle. it reduced the weight (a little) and moved the balance point up to a more desirable spot. It was very handle heavy. Balance now is at about the "n" in Fernadez. I also made a saya out of some really cool reclaimed wood I found. Think it is hard maple, but it has a very neat interlocking grain and some curl to it.
Length 239
Height 62
weight 309
Asking $160 including PP fees and shipping in the CONUS.
