Hi guys,

My friend from Japan bought me a knife (less than 1kg for sure) and wants to send to Canada as Christmas gift. Anyone knows the best method of shipping from Japan to Canada and what is approx cost?

Much appreciated!

EMS won't work at the moment due the Canada Post strike

Your best bet would be probably be DHL. You'll get hit with $20 brokerage + HST on the declared value on the way in.

Just don't use the cheapest UPS - your brokerage fees will be a base + % of declared value. Use the next step up if you go that route.

EMS won't work at the moment as it uses Canada Post once it gets into the country.

Thanks so much. I know not only canada post but also other delivery companies have issues. I am debating to ask my friend to send after the holiday and hopefully the situation gets better.

I always had good luck with FedEx international priority, shipping to the US though.
Cheaper than DHL and just as fast IME.

That explains why my parcel ordered last month hasn't arrived from Europe yet.
Just found out about the strike.

yeah....they have been on strike for a couple of weeks now and not only Canada post, other companies like ups has significant delays due to huge demand for the holiday season..........I am thinking to ask my friend to send my gift after everything is resolved....
