Still playing around with this cauble. The right side is trickier, shallower transition, higher bevel.

I scratched the cladding and needed to drop down to synths again to clean it up. I tried out a 5k shapton pro. Does a good job of brightening the core steel but maybe a bit harsh on the cladding. It removes the scratches I was targeting but not a consistent finish. I then followed it up with an akapin for the cladding to even things out. Not a super fine finish but a nice hybrid finish that took 15 mins.

Binsui base---Tajima stone (with thick mikawa slurry ). Stone polish only. I tried multiple times to change the pressure level and water control, but still can't reach an even finish:(.

I've found that soft stainless cladding to be particularly difficult to get looking good.
i think so, stainless clad is kind of picky on the stones. and i tried the same stone on Toyama stainless clad, not working at all,the cladding steel is so hard.

Tajima wouldn’t be my first pick for stainless, or as a final stone for polishing a wider bevel generally. Very hard and prone to inconsistent burnishing.

at the moment Tajima is the only choice i have for natural medium-fine grit. perhaps ill get another one in the future.

Was just getting somewhere when I got yelled at to start dinner… this one is already sooooo thin so didn’t want to chase low spots too heavily (got a lot out). Will have to use some finger stones at the end

Before (very rust prone from belt scratches)

My bb is the most reactive knife I’ve ever owned. That includes several mazakis. If you breath too heavily on it rust may appear. I love it though

This is curious. Mine is the least reactive carbon steel knife I own. I’m not being a belligerent contrarian. It’s the knife I go to when I need the least fuss. Has a very feint patina and never changes colour etc.

Mine is an older one with the old makers mark. Could there have been a change?

Haha definitely same experience. Things one of the mystery steels with wrought clad if I remember right. Looks like tennen tooshie is down. Tried with a finger stone finish on one side a while ago and even that helped

Same experience here, both wrought iron with normal steel and blue 1 from Eddie are not reactive at all. It does patina better with stone finish though. Probably is my favorite knife when I don't want to be gentle with my knife.

Must just be me and @Simply. @tostados had mine for a little for a little handle spa and he remarked on it.

Same here by a long shot, but mine is a newer one.

Really wish I got the last of the low spots out 😂. So thin I can feel the stone through the bevel, someone give me strength. Knife has a lot of potential.

Ohira suita, shobu tomae, then slurry on a neoprene pad (I’m out of furniture pads and skin on my fingers).

Low slurry/high polish approach on the right. High slurry/cloudy finish approach on the left. Really thinking about hitting this with the venev but honestly feel like I’m going to suddenly feel stone on my fingers through the blade lol.

Can definitely speak to the reactivity, the ohira renge suita had the cladding going maverick on me. Shobu tomae to a lesser extent.
